Characteristics

Leaf 70–350 × 3–10 mm, fleshy, ribbed, light green or dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 200–750 × 1–2.5 mm, 1–12-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 15–30 mm across, dark purplish blue or mauve. Sepals and petals 6–15 × 3.5–8 mm, concave. Column 4.5–6.5 × 2.5–3.5 mm, pale blue, dark mauve or pink; post-anther lobe 2.5–3.5 × 1.5–2.5 mm, dark purple to black with yellow apex, tubular, inflated, hooded, curved through 90º, deeply notched; column arms 1–1.5 mm long, curved gently upwards; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, sparse, cream or pale yellow (sometimes pinkish), hairs 1.2–1.8 mm long, erect and embracing front of midlobe.
