Leaf 150–300 × 10–20 mm, light green, base purplish. Flower stem 300–600 × 3–4 mm, 3–15-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 15–35 mm across, pale blue to dark purplish blue, externally mauve or reddish. Sepals and petals 12–20 × 6–10 mm, overlapping in open flowers. Column 5–7 × 3–4 mm, white, pale blue or pinkish; post-anther lobe 3.5–4.5 × 1.8–2 mm, hooding anther, brown to dark brown with narrow blue collar and conspicuous yellow apex, tubular, inflated, V-notched; column arms projecting or obliquely erect, curved sharply, 1.5–2 mm long; hair-tufts dense, toothbrush-like, usually white, hairs 0.7–1 mm long.
