Characteristics

Leaf 130–300 × 4–10 mm, fleshy, dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 200–650 × 1.3–3 mm, 1–6-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 16–27 mm across, dark blue to purplish. Sepals and petals 6–13 × 4–8 mm, concave. Column 5–6 × 2.5–3.5 mm, blue or pinkish; post-anther lobe tubular, covered with a waxy, often glistening secretion, 3–4 × 1.9–2.6 mm, pinkish brown, brown or black with narrow purplish collar, apex yellow, very inflated, deeply split into 2 parallel lobes 1.5–2.5 mm long; column arms 1.5–2 mm long, upcurved at 45º; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, white, cream or yellow, hairs 1.2–1.6 mm long, embracing front of midlobe.
