Characteristics

Leaf ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 60–120 × 10–20 mm, leathery, bright green to yellowish green. Flower stem 200–350 × 1.5–2 mm, green, 2–12-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers often crowded, 45–55 mm across, rich brown to dark golden brown with large, orange or yellow blotches and streaks, externally similar. Sepals and petals 16–27 × 4–8 mm, labellum narrowest. Column 9–12 × 5–7 mm, base brown, apex orange, very broadly winged, wings spreading like a mantle, pale yellow or tan, deeply and stiffly fringed or toothed (teeth to 2.5 mm long); dorsal surface of post-anther lobe covered by a dense mass of orange papillae; supra-anther lobe 3–4 mm long, rod-like, yellow or tan, with projecting, clubbed apex that resembles the head of mud-skipper; lateral lobes 2–2.5 mm long, finger-like, fleshy, orange. Anther near column base, with curved, beak-like appendage 3–4 mm long.
