Characteristics

Leaf 150–500 × 5–25 mm, thick, leathery, ribbed, dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 300–1,000 × 2–10 mm, 5–25-flowered. Sterile bracts 2 or 3. Flowers 25–50 mm across, dark blue to purplish, sometimes lilac, pink or white, externally greyish blue. Sepals and petals 10–25 × 5–12 mm, often cupped. Column 5–8 × 3–5.5 mm, whitish, pale blue or pinkish; post-anther lobe 3.5–5 × 2–3 mm, hooding anther, dark brown to blackish with yellow apex, tubular, hardly inflated, entire or shallowly notched; column arms converging, 1.5–2 mm long, sharply bent near middle; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, white, hairs 0.8–1.2 mm long.
