Characteristics

Leaf ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 60–150 × 10–25 mm, leathery, bright green to yellowish green. Flower stem 200–300 × 2–3 mm, green, 2–8-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers crowded, 45–55 mm across, rich brown to dark golden brown with large yellow blotches and stripes, externally brown. Sepals and petals 16–28 × 4–8 mm, labellum narrowest. Column 7–9 × 5–6 mm, base brown, apex yellow, very broadly winged, wings spreading like a mantle, pale yellow or brownish, margins deeply and stiffly fringed (teeth to 2.5 mm long); dorsal surface of post-anther lobe covered with a dense mass of orange papillae; supra-anther lobe 2.5–3.5 mm long, rod-like, orange, with projecting, swollen apex; lateral lobes 2–2.5 mm long, finger-like, orange. Anther near column base, with curved beak-like appendage 2.5–3 mm long.
