Characteristics

Leaf 100–300 × 2–8 mm. Flower stem 180–550 × 0.8–2 mm, 1–6-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 14–22 mm across, pale blue, dark blue or purplish, often with pink tones. Sepals and petals 6–12 × 3–6.5 mm. Column 4–6 × 2.5–3.7 mm, blue or pinkish; post-anther lobe wedge-shaped, covered copiously with a thick, sticky, glistening secretion, 2.5–3.5 × 1.5–2.5 mm, purplish brown with a yellow apex, widest at apex, inflated, hooded, deeply V-notched; column arms converging, 1–2 mm long; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, bright yellow or cream, hairs 1.2–2.2 mm long.

Environment

Locally common in W.A., much less common in eastern states if present at all. Grows in moist to wet depressions, swamp margins and other low-lying sites in coastal and near-coastal heathland, heathy forest and shrubland in dark, sandy or peaty soil.
