Characteristics

Leaf forming a closed sheath 40–80 mm above ground before expanding to a linear blade, 80–120 × 1.5–2.5 mm, dark green with purplish base. Flower stem 150–300 mm tall, 1–4-flowered. Sterile bracts 1 or 2. Ovaries and floral bracts covered with powdery bloom. Flowers 12–14 mm across, internally deep blue, externally slaty grey. Sepals and petals 6–8 × 3–5 mm. Column 5–6 × 2–3 mm, white or pale blue; post-anther lobe 3–5 × 1–2 mm, dark with yellow to orange apex, narrowly tubular, hooded, apex ribbed, V-notched, margins incurved and crinkled; column arms converging, c. 1.4 mm long, curved upwards; hair tufts mop-like, dense, white, touching front of column, hairs c. 1 mm long.
