Characteristics

Leaf filiform, 30–50 × 1.5–2 mm, rigid, green with red base, clasping base of flower stem. Flower stem 50–100 mm tall, 1–2-flowered. Sterile bracts 2. Flowers 8–10 mm across, internally deep blue with 6–8 darker striations, externally slaty grey. Sepals and petals 5–7 × 4–5 mm. Column 3–4 × 1.5–2 mm, purple, with very little glistening secretion; post-anther lobe 1–2 × 1 mm, black with yellow apex, divided into 2 narrow lobes with crinkled, incurved margins; column arms converging, c. 2 mm long, flat, curved upwards; hair tufts mop-like, sparse, wholly yellow or with purplish base, recurved between 2 column lobes, hairs 1–2 mm long.
