Characteristics

Leaf 140–400 × 5–20 mm, linear, dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 250–650 × 1–3.5 mm, 1–18-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 14–22 mm across, rich purple, dark blue to purplish blue, occasionally white. Sepals and petals 6–12 × 3–6.5 mm, concave. Column 4.5–6.5 × 2.5–4 mm, pink or purplish; post-anther lobe 3–4 × 2–3 mm, dark brown to almost black with yellow apex, dull, curved abruptly through 90º, tubular, inflated but compressed dorsally, hooded, deeply notched; column arms 1.2–1.5 mm long, curved upwards; hair-tufts mop-like, moderately sparse, untidy, white hairs 1–1.3 mm long.
