Characteristics

Plants glaucous. Leaf 100–300 × 5–20 mm, leathery, dark green to reddish, base purplish. Flower stem 220–450 × 1–3 mm, reddish to purplish, 2–12-flowered. Sterile bracts 2 to 4, sometimes purplish, lowest bract large and leaf-like. Flowers 15–25 mm across, medium blue with darker veins. Sepals and petals 10–15 × 4–8 mm, concave. Column 5–6 × 3–4 mm, white to pale blue; post-anther lobe 1.5–2 × 1.5–2 mm, dark blackish brown with thin blue collar and yellow notched apex, gently curved, semi-cylindric, hooded, shallowly toothed; column arms parallel, 1.2–2 mm long, obliquely erect, curved; hair-tufts mop-like, white, hairs 1–1.5 mm long.
