Characteristics

Plants very slender. Leaf 50–150 × 3–4 mm, dark green. Flower stem 150–700 × 1–1.5 mm, wiry, 2–15-flowered. Sterile bracts 2 or 3. Flowers usually remaining cupped, 10–16 mm across, pale yellow to bright yellow with numerous dark brown spots. Sepals and petals 6–8.5 × 3–4 mm, labellum much narrower and less spotted than other segments. Column 4–6 × 2–4 mm, white, cream or yellowish, spotted; post-anther lobe, vestigial, sloping at back where covered with numerous small bumps, apical rim bright yellow, crested; column arms 1–1.5 mm long, obliquely erect, ear-like, white, densely covered with rounded to short hair-like white papillae. Anther yellow to orange.

Localised; found growing in dense scrub in near-coastal swamps, often among sedges and rushes in moist to wet soil; one population grows in saturated moss on granite rock north of Walpole.
