Characteristics

Shrub to about 6 dm. high, glabrous.. Branches densely beset with white lenticels.. Leaves 1-foliolate; petiole 8–30 cm. long, terete, deeply striate longitudinally; blade oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 9–50 mm. long, 2–4.5 mm. wide, acute or acuminate with a mucronulate apex, coriaceous, with the margin somewhat revolute; midrib impressed above, prominent beneath.. Inflorescence a short 5–7-flowered corymbose raceme; pedicels bracteate, 7–8 mm. long.. Buds about 1 cm. in diameter prior to rupture.. Stamens spreading, wavy, ± 3 cm. long; anthers 2.5–3 mm. long.. Ovary ovoid-oblong, 3 mm. long, 2 mm. across, longitudinally striate.. Fruits cylindrical, up to 15 cm. long, 7 cm. across, longitudinally 8-ribbed.. Fig. 14/5, 6, p. 84.
