Characteristics

Plants large to robust, in mats. Stems 2(3)-pinnately branched; paraphyllia dense; strongly short branched; axillary hairs present. Leaves dimorphic, stem leaves broadly lanceolate or cordate-ovate, plicate; apex acuminate to piliferous, terminal cell acute; costa percurrent, disappearing in apex; margins entire to papillose-serrate. Upper laminal cells hexagonal, smooth to strongly papillose, basal cells rectangular to linear. Perichaetial leaf margins coarsely serrate to ciliate at shoulders. Capsule inclined to horizontal, curved; peristome perfect.
