Epiphytic plants. Aerial shoots pendulous, unbranched or rarely (in Australia) forked once, 6–40 cm long, growing for one or a number of years and terminating in a small sterile or sporogenous leaf; lower portion of shoot below leaves terete or faintly ribbed. Leaves spirally arranged, oblong to lanceolate, tapering distally, 2–4 per cm, 12–26 mm long, 2.5–5 mm wide towards base; surfaces dull; apex truncate or obtuse, mucronate. Synangia at intervals in upper part of shoot, testiculate, 4–4.5 mm long; length c. 2 times height; ends obtuse, often recurved, deciduous.
