Characteristics

Epiphytic plants. Aerial shoots unbranched, pendulous, 4–15 cm long, growing for one season and terminating in a sterile leaf similar in length to or shorter than other leaves. Leaves spirally arranged, elliptic-falcate, curving outwards, 4–6 per cm, 7.5–18 mm long, 1.8–3.2 mm wide just below middle; surfaces shiny; apex acute, mucronate. Synangia testiculate, in zones in middle or upper part or sometimes below middle, 2.5–3.5 mm long; length c. 2 times height.

Environment

Grows on the trunks and bases of tree ferns (Dicksonia and Cyathea) in dense, wet rainforest, normally close to streams. It is often associated with filmy ferns, such as Polyphlebium venosum.
