Achenes 2-3.5 mm long, 4-5-angled, finely ribbed; pappus of barbellate setae 3.5-7 mm long.
Perennial herb, acaulescent, with milky latex. Leaves in a basal rosette, sessile or base cuneate to long attenuate, petiole-like; blade elliptic to narrowly obovate, apex rounded or acute, margins remotely and minutely toothed or more deeply cut, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Heads ligulate, few to many on long peduncles arranged in corymbose panicle; flowering stem up to 0.6 m high. Involucral bracts 2-or 3-seriate, subequal. Flowers: ligules yellow; Nov.-Apr. Fruit with cypsela narrowly obconic, 4-or 5-angled, 2.0-3.5 mm long, apex truncate, with fine rough ribs rough. Pappus of barbellate bristles.
Erect, perennial herb, up to 0.6 m high, with milky latex. Leaves in a basal rosette, elliptic to oblanceolate, apex acute to rounded, base narrowly cuneate to attenuate, remotely and minutely toothed or more deeply cut, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Capitula ligulate, few-many on long peduncles, arranged in corymbose panicle; involucral bracts unequal, in 2 or 3 rows. Florets yellow. Flowering time Aug.-Apr. Pappus of many, barbellate bristles, often with outer row of small bristles. Cypselae narrowly obconic, apex truncate, finely ribbed, ribs rough.
Leaves 2–8, sub-rosulate, rarely also 1–2 cauline, mostly 4–5 x 1-1.5 cm., oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, sometimes up to 15 cm. long and narrowly oblanceolate, or up to 3.5 cm. wide and narrowly obovate, apex acute to rounded, base narrowly cuneate to attenuate, margins remotely denticulate, lamina glabrous to sparsely pubescent.
Florets numerous, corollas 9–10.5 mm. long, corolla tube c. 5 mm. long, cylindrical, crisped-pilose outside; ligule erect yellow, often drying greenish, equalling or exceeding the tube in length, strap-shaped, pubescent on the back, apical lobes papillose, ligules often longer and more deeply lobed in the outer florets.
Perennial herb, up to 0.6 m high. Leaves in a basal rosette, elliptic to oblanceolate, remotely and minutely toothed or more deeply cut, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Heads few to many on long peduncles arranged in corymbose panicle. Achenes finely ribbed. Flowers yellow; July and October to April.
Phyllaries 2-seriate, sub-equal, 6–8(10) mm. long, linear to narrowly lanceolate, attenuate at the apex, pubescent to tomentose and papillose-glandular outside, the outer phyllaries often with a thickened ± verruculose midrib, phyllaries changing abruptly into bracteoles.
A herb. It is slightly hairy. It can keep growing from year to year. The leaves are oval and blunt. They are 3 cm long by 1.5 cm wide. The flower heads are in loose clusters. These are on a common slender stalk 30 cm long. They are yellow.
Achenes 2–3.5 mm. long, narrowly obconic-turbinate, 4–5-angled, finely 12–15-ribbed; pappus of 20–30 persistent rigid barbellate setae 5–7 mm. long, often with an outer whorl of minute setae.
Involucres up to c. 11 x 7 mm. in flower, obconic-campanulate, cylindric in bud with hooded phyllaries, subtended by 2–21 subulate bracteoles which extend down the capitulum stalk.
Scapes up to c. 80 cm. tall, solitary or several, branching above, slender, finely ribbed, ± sparsely pilose below, glabrous above.
An erect scapose perennial herb from a stout semi-woody taproot; rootcrowns lanate.
Capitula many, laxly corymbiform cymose or paniculate, stalks up to 26 cm. long.
