Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Tribolium

Characteristics

Prostrate or tufted annual to 300 mm high; stolons absent. Leaf blade 20-150 x 1-5 mm, expanded, usually sparsely to densely hairy, hairs simple or tubercle-based, rarely glabrous. Inflorescence a terminal contracted panicle, ovate or cylindrical, 10-50 mm long, partly enclosed in uppermost leaf; a dehiscence node absent below flag-leaf. Spikelet 3.5-5.0 x 1.0-1.5 mm; florets (2-)3(-4), not distichous; glumes 3.5-5.0 mm long, longer than spikelet, acuminate to long-acuminate, 5-nerved, scaberulous; hairs long, glassy, tubercle-based, tapering apically; upper glume awn usually 0.5-1.4 mm long; lemma 2.8-4.0 mm long, long-acuminate, awnless; lower margins hairy; hairs 0.3-1.2 mm long, acute; palea acute or bi-lobed, glabrous or hairy between keels and margins long hairy; anthers 0.8-2.0 mm long.
More
Plants annual; innovation buds intravaginal. Culms 7–30 cm high. Leaves villous or rarely glabrous; hairs simple or tubercle-based. Inflorescences all terminal, sparsely paniculate, contracted, ovate or cylindrical, 10–50 mm long. Spikelets 3.5–5 mm long, with 2–3 florets. Glumes exceeding florets, rather long-acuminate, with long bristly tubercle-based hairs; lower glume 3.5–5 mm long. Lemma 2.8–4 mm long, long-acuminate, awnless, villous, without indumentum between submarginal stripes. Palea elliptic to ovate, 2.2–3 mm long, glabrous between keels with a small cluster of hairs at base, or downy between keels. Anthers 0.8–2 mm long. Grain 1.2 mm long.
Annual, up to 300 mm tall. Leaves linear, usually hairy; ligule a fringe of hairs. Inflorescence a terminal, contracted panicle, often partly enclosed by upper leaf. Spikelets 3.5-5 mm long, awnless or minutely awned to mucronate, 2-or 3-flowered; glumes longer than spikelet (including apex/awn), long acuminate appearing awned, with glassy, tuberculate hairs, 3-7-nerved; lemmas entire, acute to acuminate, with submarginal tufts of hairs; anthers 0.8-2 mm long.
Annual to 30 cm. Leaves linear, hairy. Spikelets 3.0-5.5 mm long, in a contracted panicle partly enclosed by upper leaf, glumes glassy hairy, lemma hairy on lower margins, acute, awnless.
