Inflorescences 3–10-flowered, borne at leafy or naked nodes, often somewhat supra-axillary;peduncles 1–1.5 mm long, glabrous or covered with short hairs; (1)2 orders of branching present, ultimate branches reaching4 mm long in fruiting stage;bract and bracteoles fused, with stipule-and leaf-derived lobes clearly dissimilar, those on the upper bract often subfoliaceous or ± foliaceous (up to 2 cm long), ciliate; very occasionally with additional free bractlets above the bracteole.
Calyx tube glabrous, partly hidden by upper bracteole; limb 0.5–1.25 mm long; limb-tube very short (at the most ¼ length of limb); lobes broadly ovate, ovate or less often narrowly ovate, rounded, ciliate, after anthesis ± fully overlapping, overlapping at base or infrequently touching.
Shrub or small tree 1.25–7(8) m tall or occasionally a subshrub 0.3–0.5 m tall; young twigs square in cross section, grooved, glabrous or bifariously puberulous; older twigs at first straw-yellow to buff-coloured and smooth, later greyish and longitudinally fissured.
Corolla white (or pale mauve); tube 2.25–4(5) mm long, outside glabrous, the throat with dense projecting hairs;lobes (2.75)4.5–5 × 1–2 mm, obtuse, glabrous or sometimes ciliate at the lobe tips.
Fruit white, then turning to purple and finally becoming blackish, c. 5 mm in diameter, globose; persistent calyx lobes hiding the disk.
Placenta very thin, with 3–4 pear-shaped ovules; style glabrous; pollen presenter lobes held between or sometimes above the anthers.
Seeds 1–4 per locule, 3–4 mm long, with adaxial excavation; seed coat brown, with elevated ± rounded cells.
Filaments 1.5–2.5 mm long; anthers 2–2.5 mm long, with apical appendix0.25–0.5 or 1 mm long.
Flowers (4)5-merous, sweet-scented, sessile.
