Inflorescences borne at naked nodes or very occasionally subtended by leaves, 1–8-flowered, subsessile; intermediate inflorescence branches present in many-flowered inflorescences; single-flowered inflorescence branches reduced or rarely present (up to 1 mm long in fruit); bract and bracteoles cupular, 1–1.5 mm long, with 2 very short lobes, pubescent.
Corolla white or cream-coloured; tube 4–6 mm long, widening to 1.5–2 mm at top, glabrous but becoming pubescent towards top outside; lobes 3–4(5) × 1–1.5 mm, ± truncate, pubescent except for bud-overlap-zone outside, glabrous above.
Deciduous multi-stemmed subshrubs (? rhizomatous), shrubs or small trees, 0.4–3(4) m tall; young stems puberulous or puberulous-pubescent; older stems with brown bark, later much fissured.
Calyx tube surrounded by cupule except very top, glabrous; limb-tube 1.5–1.7 mm long, often split, puberulous outside, with silky hairs inside; lobes very reduced, up to 0.25 mm long.
Filaments 1.25–2.5 mm long; anthers ± medifixed, 3–4 mm long, not apiculate, glabrous but sometimes with a few hairs at apex.
Style 8–9 mm long, glabrous; pollen presenter arms 2–3 mm long, fully exserted; ovules 2 per placenta.
Flowers 6(7)-merous, sweet-scented (also described as sickly or unpleasant), subsessile.
Seeds 1(2) per locule, c. 7 mm long, hemispherical, with linear hilar groove.
Fruit red, 6–8 mm in diameter, globose, crowned by persistent calyx limb.
