Characteristics

Leaf blades somewhat dimorphic, those at start of new season’s growth smaller, main blades 4.2–8.6 × 1.4–3 cm, elliptic or sometimes narrowly ovate,acute or narrowly acute to gradually acuminate at the apex, cuneate and somewhat attenuate at the base, recurved at the margin, stiffly papery or subcoriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, glossy on upper surface, drying dark green or sometimes brown above, and pale beneath; midrib drying cream-coloured, lightly impressed and glabrous above, prominent beneath, sparsely puberulous when young, glabrous when mature; lateral nerves in 4–6 main pairs, clearly apparent on both surfaces;tertiary nerves clearly raised above, apparent beneath; domatia with a hairy pit-like excavation;petiole (2–3) 4–7 mm long, finely puberulous; stipule limbs 1.25–2 mm long puberulous outside with awns 2–3 mm long.

Corolla greenish-white; tube 3.5–6 mm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, glabrous or pubescent outside; lobes 3.5–4 × 1.75–2 mm, obtuse to rounded, pubescent near apex below, glabrous above.
Calyx tube glabrous, hidden by bracteolar cup; limb-tube 1.5–2 mm long, widening towards the top, truncate, with 1–4 splits, often splitting into lobe-like segments, pubescent.
Inflorescences borne in leaf axils or at naked nodes, subsessile, 1–5-flowered;bract and bracteoles cupular, pubescent.
Filaments c. 2 mm long; anthers inframedifixed, 3 mm long, with short hairs; style and pollen presenter glabrous.
Shrub or small tree 2.4–8 m high; young twigs with greyish or light brown bark, puberulous.
Flowers 5-merous, sessile.
