More
Inflorescences borne in leaf axils or at naked nodes (often on entirely leafless stems), shortly pedunculate, 1–5(7)-flowered (if above 3 often as 2 fascicles); peduncles 0.75–1 mm long; inflorescence branches apparent; bract and bracteoles cupular, the lower two bearing two well developed and 2 rudimentary awns, the upper cupule usually the largest (1.25–2.25 mm long), with awns absent or rudimentary, often split, pubescent.
Calyx tube with a few hairs (densely pubescent fide Robbrecht), entirely hidden by upper bracteolar cup; limb-tube with lower part hidden by bracteolar cup, 3.25–4 mm long, truncate or obscurely toothed, entire and enclosing the corolla when in bud, eventually splitting into 2–5 lobe-like segments, densely pubescent outside, silky pubescent inside.
Corolla white; tube (5)6–9(10) mm long, glabrous or with a few hairs outside, ± glabrous at throat but villous inside; lobes 6–9(13*) × 1.75–3(5) mm, distinctly acuminate, pubescent near apex below and near exposed margin, glabrous above.
Anthers 4–5(6) mm long, medifixed, shortly apiculate; filaments 1.5–2.5(3) mm long; style and pollen presenter glabrous; ovules 3–6 per placenta.
Deciduous shrub or small tree 1–4 m high; young twigs with light red-brown bark, pubescent or sometimes glabrous or tomentose.
Seeds 3–5 per locule, 3–5 mm long; hilum linear running the full length of the seed.
Fruit red, c. 10 mm across, calyx limb-tube persistent.
Flowers 6(7–9)-merous, sessile.
