Shrub 1–3 m. high, with puberulous or glabrous young twigs.. Leaf-blades elliptic, ovate or obovate, (2–)4–13 cm. long, (1.2–)2–6.5 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, cuneate or rounded at base, subcoriaceous, (3–)4–7 pairs of main lateral nerves; hairy pocket-domatia; petiole 2–10 mm. long, puberulous when young; stipules sheathing, puberulous or glabrous, ±1.5 mm. high, with awns 2–5 mm. long.. Flowers 6-merous, sweetly scented, subsessile; inflorescences 3–7(–9)-flowered, subsessile; bracts and bracteoles cupular with 2 subulate lobes and 2 short teeth, the lower cups often with leafy appendages up to 2.5 cm. long and wide.. Calyx pubescent or glabrous; limb with subulate lobes (0.5–)1–5 mm. long, often decurrent so that the limb-tube appears carinate, inside covered with silky hairs and colleters.. Corolla white, pubescent outside, especially on the lobes; tube 8.5–10 mm. long, 2–4 mm. wide, inside with sparse long hairs in the lower part; lobes acute, 8–10 mm. long, 2.5–5 mm. wide.. Filaments 1.5–2 mm. long; anthers 6–8 mm. long, glabrous.. Placenta elongate, with 2 collateral ovules; style glabrous or with a few hairs on the outer side of its arms, 13–16 mm. long including the 2 slender ± 5 mm. long lobes.. Fruit red, ellipsoid, ±10 mm. long, 7 mm. wide.. Seeds 1 or 2 in each chamber, their shape half or quarter of a sphere, with minutely colliculate seed-coat; hilum linear and curved.
