A shrub or small tree. The leaves are opposite and narrowly oval. They are 11 cm long by 4 cm wide. They are shiny and dark green. The flowers are in clusters of 3. They are white or greenish-cream. The fruit are round and 3-6 mm across. They are red when ripe.

Inflorescences mostly borne in leaf axils but also at naked nodes, subsessile, 3–many-flowered; bract and bracteoles cupular, pubescent.
Calyx tube glabrous, rarely pubescent, hidden by the bracteolar cup; limb tubular, shortly toothed, pubescent, 1–1.5 mm high.
Seeds with curved hilum; seed coat ± striate, thickened at the ventral side and weakly intruding into the endosperm.
Fruit red, spherical, 3–6 mm in diameter, with 1 hemispherical or 2 quarter-spherical seeds in each chamber.
Placenta with 2(3) ovules; style pubescent, 4–12 mm long including the 1–4 mm long lobes.
Filaments 0.6–3 mm long; anthers 1.5–5 mm long, mostly ± hairy, especially at the tip.
