Characteristics

Shrub 2–6 m. high; young twigs with short hairs on 2 sides.. Leaf-blades mostly obovate, 6–14 cm. long, 2.5–6 cm. wide, shortly acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, glabrous above and beneath, coriaceous; 5–6 pairs of main lateral nerves; domatia hairy; petiole 5–10 mm. long, mostly puberulous on the adaxial side; stipules triangular, fused at the base, with awns 1–3 mm. long, puberulous, quickly becoming corky.. Flowers 6-merous, sweet-scented, sessile; inflorescences (1–)2–3(–5)-flowered; bracts and bracteoles cupular, similar to the calyx-limb.. Calyx-tube glabrous; limb ± dentate, at anthesis often with one longitudinal split, 2.5–5 mm. long, puberulous or rarely glabrous outside.. Corolla white, glabrous outside and inside; tube (7.5–)10–17 mm. long, 2–5 mm. in diameter; lobes 6–7 mm. long, 3.5–4.5 mm. wide.. Stamens subsessile; anthers 5–7 mm. long, shortly apiculate.. Placenta with 3(–5) ovules arranged in a U-shape; style glabrous, exserted, 17–24 mm. long including 2 lobes 2–3 mm. long.. Fruit of unknown colour, ellipsoid, 12 mm. long, 7 mm. wide..
