Characteristics

Shrub ± 3 m. high, velutinous with yellowish hairs on all vegetative parts and outer parts of the flowers.. Leaves deciduous (only known in ± young stage); blades elliptic, 2.5–5 cm. long, 1–2 cm. wide, acute at apex, ± rounded at base, papyraceous; domatia absent; nerves (except midrib) invisible because of hairiness; petiole ± 1 mm. long; stipules sheathing, 2 mm. long, with awns 1–1.5 mm. long.. Flowers 5–6-merous, sweetly scented, appearing before or together with the new leaves, sessile, in 5–many-flowered sessile inflorescences on the leafless twigs of the previous season; bracts and bracteoles cupular, truncate.. Calyx-tube pubescent with yellowish hairs; limb cupular, obscurely 5–6-toothed, often with 1(–2) splits after anthesis, pubescent outside and covered with silky hairs within.. Corolla cream, velutinous outside (especially the lobes), glabrous inside; tube ± 5 mm. long, 1–2 mm. in diameter: lobes ± 4 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, rounded at apex.. Filaments 2–2.5 mm. long; anthers 3–4 mm. long, obtuse at apex.. Placenta with 2 collateral ovules; style glabrous, ± 10 mm. long including the 1.5–2 mm. long lobes.. Fruits unknown.
