Characteristics

A tree 6–25 m. high, with low branches; branchlets brownish, striate, lenticellate.. Leaves up to 50 cm. long, (5–)7–11-foliolate; petiole and rachis brownish, glabrous or shortly appressed pilose, striate; petiolule 3–7 mm. long; leaflets opposite or subalternate, elliptic or oblong-lanceolate, 5.5–17 cm. long, 3–7.5 cm broad, subcoriaceous, oblique, acuminate at the apex, with an often fulcate acumen about 1 cm. long, obtuse or acute and asymmetric at the base, margin sometimes undulate; midrib impressed and sometimes appressed pilose above, raised beneath; lateral nerves 10–12 pairs, slightly raised above, prominent and reticulate beneath.. Panicles up to 30 cm. long, terminal, pyramidal, many-flowered, rufescent pilose; pedicels short.. Male flowers: calyx ± 1 mm. long, 4-lobed; petals 2.8–3 mm. long, 1.8–2 mm. broad; stamens 3–4 mm. long; anthers ellipsoid; disk 1.5 mm. in diameter, densely reddish pilose.. Female flowers slightly larger than ♂; staminodes 1–1.5 mm. long; ovary ovoid, 3–4 mm. long, densely appressed reddish pilose; styles 3, ± 1 mm. long, reflexed on the ovary.. Drupe ovoid and sometimes oblique, 1.5–2 cm. long, 1–1.5 cm. in diameter, densely reddish pilose, with persistent styles and perianth.. Seed 1–1.4 cm. long, 0.8–1 cm. in diameter.

Male flowers: calyx c. 1 mm. long, 4-dentate; petals 3 × 2 mm.; stamens with filaments up to 3 mm. long and broad ellipsoid anthers c. 1 mm. long; disk 1·5 mm. in diam., densely reddish-pilose.
