Characteristics

Herb to 40 cm. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acute, tapering at base, c. 40-70 mm long, 10-25 mm wide. Flowers 15-25 mm diam., mauve or pink; peduncle 30-60 mm long; pedicel 10-30 mm long; bracts 3, 5-8 mm long, at base of pedicel. Sepals and petals 7-12 mm long, 4-7 mm wide; margins ±undulate; adaxial basal appendages 2-3 mm long. Stamens 5-6 mm long; filaments erect, 2.5-3 mm long; anthers 2-2.5 mm long. Ovary glabrous; style 1-2 mm long; stigmas 2 mm long. Capsule ovoid, rugose, 6-8 mm diam. Seeds globose or angular due to pressure in capsule, 4-5 mm diam.; strophiole brown.
