Characteristics

Perennial woody herb or shrub, 0.4–1.2 m high, much branched; stems densely white-pubescent or pilose, glandular.. Leaves aromatic, oblanceolate or narrowly obovate, 1–5 cm long, 0.4–1.4 cm wide, base cordate and semi-amplexicaul with sagittate auricles, margins serrate with callose teeth, apex acute or apiculate, densely white-villous and glandular on both surfaces.. Capitula ± 4 mm long, densely packed in secondary heads ± 6 mm long, united into dense corymbs terminal on leafy branches; stalks of individual capitula not visible, stalks of secondary heads 2–4 mm long, densely villous and glandular; phyllaries < 10 per capitulum, 3.5–4.5 mm long, ± 1 mm wide, glabrous but for the mauve-tipped apices which are ciliate to fimbriate; the secondary heads with bracteoles resembling phyllaries and ovate, ± 3 mm long, 2–3 mm wide, densely pubescent; primary capitula with 8–10 phyllaries, 2–6(–19) female and (0–)1–3(–4) hermaphrodite florets; receptacle > 0.5 mm wide.. Outer florets pink or pale purple, tube filiform, 2.8–3.5 mm long, lobes 0.2–0.3 mm long, glandular, style 0.8 mm long; inner florets pink or pale purple, tube 3–4 mm long, lobes 0.3–0.4 mm long; anthers 1.8–2 mm long with very short tails and a bluntly triangular distal appendage; style 5–5.7 mm long, papillose, the branches short (0.2–0.3 mm) and so closely parallel as to appear undivided.. Achenes cylindrical, 0.8–0.9 mm long, shortly pubescent; pappus absent or of minute (> 0.1 mm long) hairs or scales.. Fig. 74 (page 364).
