Characteristics

Woody herbs or shrubs. Leaves alternate. Capitula heterogamous, disciform; florets few per head, the heads combined in dense subglobose cymes; cymes organized in fairly dense corymbs; corymbs terminal on densely leafy branches, briefly stalked; receptacle epaleate. Florets few per capitulum; outer or female florets with the filiform tube unequally 4–5-lobed, the lobes minute, style with filiform branches; inner or hermaphrodite florets hardly widening, 5-lobed, anthers briefly tailed, with a short distal appendage, style with closely parallel branches, densely papillose over its upper half. Achenes oblong, pilose; pappus absent or of a few minute hairs.
