Triraphis R.Br.

Genus

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae

Characteristics

Annuals or perennials, caespitose (mostly small xeromorphs), bisexual. Ligule a ciliate membrane or a fringe of hairs. Inflorescences paniculate with spikelets arranged all around the branch axes. Spikelets pedicellate, laterally compressed, with 3–10 bisexual florets, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets; rachilla extension with incomplete florets. Glumes 2, ±equal or rarely very unequal, shorter than the spikelet, awned or aristulate from the sinus or awnless, carinate, 1-nerved. Lemmas 3-lobed, or 4-lobed when central lobe bidentate, with lobes dissimilar, deeply cleft on either side of the central lobe, 3-awned, 3-keeled or ±carinate when the lateral keels are near the margins, 3-nerved, villous. Caryopsis linear, trigonous; hilum short; embryo large, waisted.
More
Annuals or perennials. Leaf-blades narrow. Inflorescence an open or contracted, rarely spiciform panicle. Spikelets 4-or more flowered, the florets well exserted from the glumes, laterally compressed; glumes narrowly lanceolate, subequal, 1-nerved, mostly bidentate and aristulate; lemmas rounded on the back, scarious-membranous, 3-nerved, hairy on the side nerves, 3-lobed and 3-awned, the central lobe 2-toothed and awned from the sinus, the laterals awned from the inner side; awn slender, straight; palea a little shorter than the lemma.
