Characteristics

Densely tufted perennial 300-600 mm high. Leaf blade 100-200 x to 1.5 mm, setaceous. Inflorescence open; branches spreading, bare for most of their length; spikelets fewer than 20. Spikelet 13-18 mm long (excluding awns), usually loosely flowered; glumes unequal, narrowly lanceolate, acute; lower glume 1-nerved, glabrous even along the nerve; upper glume about 2/3 as long as spikelet, 3-nerved; rachilla internode 2.8-3.3 mm long, densely hairy; lemma glabrous, lobe 1.5-2.5 mm long from above the central awn insertion; anther 3.8 mm long.
