Characteristics

Plants (50-)150-300 mm high. Corm conical-globose, 7-10 mm diam.; tunics of fine-textured fibres, extending in a papery or fibrous neck. Stem ± erect, usually unbranched, rarely with 1 short branch. Leaves 4 to 6, linear, flaccid, usually ± as long as stem or longer, mostly 100-200 x 1.5-2.0 mm, acute to acuminate, main vein moderately thickened, margins slightly thickened and hyaline, cauline leaf membranous, bract-like, sheathing, concealed by uppermost foliage leaf. Spike inclined, moderately lax, 2-to 5-flowered; bracts dry-membranous, translucent with sparse brown speckling apically on teeth, 4-6 mm long, shallowly 3-toothed, inner ± as long, shortly bifid. Flowers zygomorphic, salmon-orange; perianth tube obliquely funnel-shaped, 9-10 mm long, lower cylindric portion 4-5 mm long, widening up to 6-8 mm diam.; tepals slightly unequal, dorsal ovate, 13-14 x 7.0-7.5 mm, other tepals elliptic, ± 13 x 5.5-6.5 mm, lower lacking calluses. Filaments unilateral, arcuate, 4-5 mm long, included; anthers 3.5-4.0 mm long, partially included in upper part of tube, yellow. Style dividing opposite anther tips, branches ± 3 mm long. Immature capsules subglobose or obovoid, ± 4.5 mm diam.
