Characteristics

Plants (60-)80-150 mm high. Corm moderately deep-seated, obovoid-conic, 15-30 mm diam.; tunics of moderately coarse-textured fibres sometimes thickened into claws at base, extending upward in a fibrous and papery collar. Stem suberect, shortly exserted up to 50 mm above leaves, usually simple, rarely with up to 3 suberect branches from base. Leaves 6 to 10, in close fan, falcate or rarely suberect, slightly succulent, 30-80(-100) x 3-7 mm, obtuse or acute, with translucent main vein only, cauline leaves all subbasal or rarely shortly exserted above basal fan, leaf-like. Spike inclined, moderately dense, 2-ranked, 2-to 6-flowered; bracts dry and papery, pale or pinkish translucent, minutely speckled brown above, outer (12-)15-20 mm long, acute or 3-toothed with middle tooth largest, inner subequal or slightly longer. Flowers zygomorphic, dull yellow or brownish yellow or sometimes cream, orange or salmon-coloured, conspicuously dark-veined; perianth tube funnel-shaped, sharply bent, 25-32 mm long, widening in upper 1/2 to ± 8-10 mm diam.; tepals unequal, upper 3 slightly wider, spreading or recurved, elliptic to obovate, 12-18 mm long, upper 7-12 mm wide, lower 6-7 mm wide, each with long, crisped or undulate, crest-like callus on lower 1/2 extending shortly into throat, 0.5-0.8 mm high and 6-10 mm long. Filaments unilateral, arcuate, 15-22 mm long, not or scarcely exserted; anthers 6-7 mm long; pollen creamy white. Style 28-35 mm long, dividing near middle of anthers, branches 4-5 mm long. Capsules shortly ellipsoid-trigonous or obovoid-trigonous, 8-12 mm long.
