Species

Angiosperms > Malvales > Malvaceae > Triumfetta

Characteristics

Prostrate creeping perennial with woody rootstock; stems to 1 m long, 1(–1.5) mm thick, brown, long stellate-hairy, subscabrid.. Leaves narrowly to broadly ovate, rarely circular, 2.5–6 cm long, 1.6–5.5 cm wide, apex rounded to obtuse, base deeply cordate, margin 1–2-crenate-serrate, upper surface subglabrous with scattered simple hairs, lower surface subscabrid with 4-armed hairs; petiole 4–11 mm long, thickly stellate-hairy; stipules linear-lanceolate, 5–6 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, setulose.. Inflorescences largely axillary, cymes 1–5 per node, each with (1–)3(–5) flowers; peduncle 3–7 mm long, bracts in involucre 4–7, linear-lanceolate, 3–4 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, with scattered long simple hairs to 1.5 mm long; pedicels 2–3 mm long, densely stellate-hairy.. Sepals linear-oblong, 6–7 mm long, 1 mm wide, the apical spine 0.5 mm long, outer surface with scattered stellate hairs at the tip.. Petals obovate, 4 mm long, 2 mm wide, claw 2 mm long with a tuft of hairs halfway up; stamens 9–11; ovary densely villose.. Fruit subglobose, ± 10 mm diameter, bristly, at first red, fleshy and berry-like, then drying brown and dehiscing by 4 valves, bristles ± 80, 1(–2) mm long, each with 1–3 scattered simple patent hairs, tip with a single, straight terminal hair, but usually broken..
