Characteristics

Procumbent, probably short-lived herb; stems 4 or more, rooting at the nodes, 30–50 cm long, unbranched or with many lateral stems, 0.5–1 mm thick, stellate-hairy.. Leaves ± rounded in outline, 1–2(–2.8) cm long, 1–3 cm wide, base deeply cordate (to truncate), deeply 3–5-lobed, divided by 1/4–3/4, lobes oblong, rounded at the tip, margin coarsely crenate-serrate, thinly papery, subglabrous, with scattered simple hairs above and beneath, stellate hairs on veins beneath; petiole 5.5–23 mm long, densely stellate-hairy; stipules sometimes persistent, filamentous, up to 3 mm long.. Infloresence leaf-opposed, not terminal, cymes 1 per node, (1–)3(–5)-flowered; peduncles 4 mm long (7–16 mm in fruit), densely stellate-hairy; bracts 4–5, narrowly ovate, ± 1.25 mm long, acute; pedicels 3 mm long (4–9 mm in fruit).. Sepals narrowlyoblong, 3 mm long, sparsely stellate-hairy at base, spur 0.25 mm long, tip black.. Petals narrowly obovate, ± 3 mm long, without a distinct claw or basal tuft of hairs; stamens 9–10; ovary long-hairy.. Fruit white, dehiscing eventually into 6 nutlets, spherical, 10–15 mm diameter, densely covered in long soft bristles 5–6 mm long; bristles ± glabrous in the upper and lower 1–2 mm, but otherwise thickly covered in long translucent hairs 1 mm long, the tip with a single straight hair; body of fruit ± 2 mm in diameter, densely covered in long hairs up to 0.5 mm long..
