Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 3–12 × 0·8–5 cm., lanceolate to narrowly ovate or narrowly trapeziform, apex acute, margin irregularly serrate, base cuneate or narrowly truncate, appressed-stellate-tomentose above with impressed nerves, whitish-tomentose below with the nerves raised; petiole up to 2·5 cm. long, shortly tomentose.

Inflorescences leafy with up to 5 cymes per node; peduncles of cymes up to 4 mm. long, densely pubescent; pedicels 2–3 together, c. 2 mm. long; bracts 2 mm. long, narrowly lanceolate, ciliate.
Fruit (not quite mature) c. 7·5 mm. in diam. including the aculei; aculei numerous, minutely and sparsely puberulous, widened below, apex with 1–3 forward-pointing setae.
Sepals 6–7 mm. long, linear, 3-nerved, subacute at the apex with a very short subapical horn c. 0·25 mm. long, setulose-pubescent outside, particularly towards the apex.
Small shrub c. 6 m. tall; branches densely ferruginously pubescent with appressed-stellate hairs which are somewhat tubercular at the base.
Androgynophore less than 0·5 mm. tall, with subquadrate glands; annulus with a shortly ciliate margin.
Petals yellow 4–4·5 × 0·75 linear-oblanceolate, obtuse at the apex, ciliate just above the base.
Ovary depressed-globose, 4-locular; style 4–5 mm. long, glabrous.
Stamens 8–9, c. 5 mm. long.
