Characteristics

Erect subshrub 45–90 cm high; stems 2–3 mm thick, terete, pale brown and softly hairy.. Leaves shortly ovate to orbicular-acuminate, 1.4–4.5 cm long, 1.2–4 cm wide, tip acuminate to rounded, base slightly cordate to obtuse, margin coarsely singly to doubly crenate or dentate, upper side green, softly felty, underside grey, softly felty; petiole 5–30 mm long, ± 0.75 mm diameter, terete, brown, softly hairy; stipules persistent, lanceolate, 7.5(–12) mm long, 1(–2) mm wide, brown and softly hairy.. Inflorescences terminal, with 1–4 branches 5–25 cm long, cymes 1–3, leaf-opposed, 1–3(–4)-flowered, all but the lowermost inflorescence-leaves highly reduced, bract-like, lanceolate, ± 3 mm long, 1 mm wide, with 1–3 pairs of disc-shaped glandular swellings ± 1 mm in diameter on upper surface; peduncles ± 2 mm long, hairy; bracts 2–5, caducous, elliptic, ± 6.5 mm long, 2 mm wide, tip mucronate, ± 1 mm long; pedicels 2 mm long.. Sepals narrowly oblong, 9 mm long, 1.25 mm wide, the outside covered in dense white stellate tomentum, apical spur 2 mm long.. Petals spathulate to narrowly obovate, 8 mm long, 3 mm wide, barely clawed, without basal tuft of hair; stamens 30–31; ovary densely hairy.. Fruit indehiscent, 6-locular, ovoid, 8–12 mm long, 8–9.5 mm wide, covered in ± 70 bristles, each ± 2 mm long, hooked at the tip, the upper half subglabrous, brown, the lower half densely covered in short, simple, tawny hairs which obscure the surface of the fruit..
