Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 3–10 × 0·5–3 cm., narrowly elliptic-lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, apex acute, margin serrate or serrate-crenate, base cuneate or narrowly rounded, both surfaces with a sparse pubescence of simple setulose hairs and minute appressed-stellate hairs principally on the nerves, very young leaves densely stellate-tomentellous on both sides; petiole up to 15 mm. long, stellately pilose.

Inflorescences leafy, of small 1–3-flowered cymes 1–3 per node of cymes; peduncles of cymes very slender, up to 2–5 cm. long, minutely stellate-pubescent along one side; pedicels similar, c. 3 mm. long; bracts c. 1·5 mm. long, linear, sparsely ciliate.
Perennial herb or small shrub c. 0·6–1·5 m. tall; with slender erect pubescent branches, pubescence of scattered dark brown appressed-stellate hairs.
Fruit globose, 4 mm. in diam. (immature), glabrous; aculei numerous, widened at the base, each terminated by a single seta.
Androgynophore 0·25 mm. long, glands subquadrate; annulus reflexed, shortly recurved, ciliate.
Petals yellow, 3·5 cm. long, linear-oblanceolate, obtuse at the apex, ciliate at the base.
Sepals 6–6·5 × 0·5 mm., linear, glabrous; subapical horn 0·2 mm. long.
Ovary globose, 4-locular; style 4 mm. long.
