Characteristics

Cormous herb; corm subglobose to irregular and flattish, 4–10 cm wide. Leaves few to several together; petiole to 35 cm long; blade slightly glaucous, very variable in shape, hastate to deeply trifid with linear lobes; anterior lobe c. 16–19 cm long, 0.5–9 cm wide; posterior lobes about ¾ length of anterior, tending to be held above plane of anterior lobe. Inflorescence: peduncle short; spathe to c. 22 cm long, constricted c. 3–5 cm from base; limb very broadly ovate, somewhat convolute basally, purplish brown inside, greenish outside; spadix (often much) shorter than spathe, c. 6–11 cm long; female zone c. 0.8 cm long, then a 0.5 cm zone of crowded filiform neuter organs, then a naked interstice c. 2 cm long; male zone 0.8–2 cm long; appendix variable in size and shape, stipitate, ± broadly conical and oblique-truncate at base, 2–6 cm long, purple-black. Infructescence within persistent spathe base.
