Characteristics

Cormous herb; corm subglobose, to c. 5 cm diam. Leaves few together; petiole to c. 30 cm, sheathing in lower ½–2/3; blade very narrowly lanceolate, c. 30 cm long, with margin often undulate; posterior lobes completely lacking. Inflorescence solitary, on short peduncle, directly subtended by cataphylls; spathe 10–24 cm long, abruptly constricted 3–4 cm from base; limb broadly ovate, to 20 × 10 cm, convolute in lower part; spadix shorter than spathe, to c. 10 cm long; female zone 0.5–0.8 cm long, then a 0.5 cm zone of crowded filiform neuter organs, then a 1.2–4 cm naked interstice; male zone c. 1.5 cm long; appendix ±sessile, narrowly conic, truncate to obtuse at base, blackish. Infructescence within persistent spathe base.
