Characteristics

Minute herb; corm hemispheric, pea-sized. Leaves 1–3 together; blade broadly ovate to elliptic, without posterior lobes, to c. 2.5 cm long. Inflorescence appearing before leaves; spathe c. 4 cm long, tubular in lower c. 1.5 cm, partly buried; tube spindle-shaped, somewhat curved, faintly constricted c. 1 cm from base; limb narrowly lanceolate, erect, greyish; spadix somewhat exceeding spathe; female zone a whorl of acroscopic pistils; neuter organs filiform, clustered at base of interstice and occupying most of lower spathe chamber; remainder of interstice naked, its apex passing through spathe tube septum; male zone shortly cylindric, situated at base of upper spathe chamber; appendix filiform, deflected through mouth of spathe tube, then erect. Infructescence a naked hemispheric cluster of berries c. 4 mm long.
