Corm subglobose, c. 2.5 cm diam. Leaves several together; petiole c. 13 cm long above ground, sheathing in subterranean part; blade deeply trilobed with linear segments to hastate to auriculate and then broadly ovate, rarely elliptic, in deeply lobed forms anterior lobe c. 8 × 0.5 cm and posterior lobes to 3.5 × 0.2 cm, in broad leaved forms blade c. 7 × 3.5 cm and posterior lobes reduced to ±absent. Inflorescence in middle of leaf rosette; spathe base at or slightly below ground level, ovoid, c. 1 cm long, separated from limb by a rather weak constriction; limb narrowly lanceolate, c. 6–10 cm long, deep purple inside, greenish brown outside; spadix somewhat shorter than spathe, 5–9 cm long, sessile; female zone c. 2 mm long, with acroscopic pistils; sterile interstice 0.8–1 cm long, with lower 1/3–1/2 occupied by rather stout clavate neuter organs, the rest naked; male zone c. 0.7 cm long, cylindric; appendix sessile, cylindric, c. 3–5 cm long, blunt-tipped, purple. Fruits in a hemispheric to sub-globose cluster, not protected by spathe base.
