Characteristics

Corm compressed subglobose, c. 2.5 cm diam. Leaves (1–) 2 or 3 together; petiole mostly subterranean; blade (elliptic to) ovate to pedatifid with 5 sessile segments, c. 4.5 cm long, glaucous, somewhat coriaceous. Inflorescence appearing ahead of and beside current season’s leaves; spathe tubular and subterranean below constriction, septate inside at level of constriction; limb c. 4 cm long, lanceolate, purple-black inside, greyish and rugose outside, with crispate margins; spadix slightly exceeding spathe, sessile; female zone c. 3 mm long with pistils basally plagioscopic, the rest ±acroscopic; neuter organs clavate, down-turned, c. 3 mm long, crowded near female zone; male zone separated from neuter organs by naked interstice passing through orifice of septum; male zone c. 9 mm long, with base pressed against distal side of septum; appendix sessile, narrowly conic and distally somewhat reflexed, c. 3.5 cm long, obliquely inserted, truncate at base, rugose, blackish purple. Infructescence at ground level, not enclosed by spathe base, a hemispheric cluster, c. 1.5 cm diam., of ovoid to tetrahedral longitudinally ridged, somewhat rugose berries.
