Characteristics

Cormous herb; corm subglobose to flattish, somewhat irregular, c. 4 cm diam. Leaves to 6 together; petiole 15–50 cm long; blade hastate with posterior lobes somewhat raised, somewhat glaucous, occasionally variegated in an irregularly spattered pattern of paler greyish green; anterior lobe broadly ovate to lanceolate, c. 10–20 × 2–8 cm; posterior lobes about 1/2 length of anterior. Inflorescence: peduncle much shorter than petioles; spathe c. 12.5–33 cm long; lower spathe ovoid, c. 4 cm long, green, separated from limb by abrupt constriction; limb broadly ovate, slightly reflexed, somewhat convolute in lower part, deep purple inside, outside greenish suffused brown with midrib whitish; spadix somewhat to much shorter than spathe, c. 9 cm long; female zone 1 cm long; sterile interstice c. 2.5 cm long, c. 0.3 cm diam., with blackish purple filiform neuter organs in lower part, the rest occupied by shorter subpyramidal neuter organs; male zone equalling sterile zone; stamens whitish, maroon near pores; appendix shortly stipitate, narrowly conic, obliquely truncate at base, c. 3.5 × 0.8 cm, blunt-tipped, deep purple-black. Infructescence within persistent spathe base.
