A sub-erect, ascending, or partially procumbent herb with elongating and more or less branching stems apparently not rooting at the nodes or at most only at the lowest, internodes 1–6.5 cm. long, the youngest hirsute especially in the upper part and a tendency for the hairs to be in longitudinal lines, glabrescent to glabrous in the lower part of every internode and often throughout the lower internodes..
