Leaves petiolate; lamina 5–14 x 2–4 (5) cm., elliptic to oblong or oblanceolate, acuminate (more rarely obtuse) and emarginate at the apex, broadly to narrowly cuneate at the base, subcoriaceous, bright glossy green and glabrous above except for the rusty-or fawn-pubescent midrib, ± matte and sparsely subappressed-pubescent below but densely pubescent along the midrib, usually with slightly prominent venation on both sides; petiole 2.5–6 mm. long, ± densely rusty-or fawn-pubescent.
Fruit on a pedicel c. 10–20 mm. long; fruiting carpels 1–2 (8-several-seeded), (2) 3–5 x 2–2.5 cm., cylindric to obovoid, straight or curved, apiculate, not or only slightly constricted between the seeds, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, finely rugose, yellow, becoming blackish-purple and woody when dry, edible, with stipes 0.3–0.8 cm. long.
Petals yellow or cream, sometimes greenish, 15–30 mm. long, fleshy, sub-equal, the outer whorl valvate and the inner one imbricate in bud, elliptic or oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse to rounded, grey-silky-tomentellous above, grey-brown-sericeous below.
Flowers solitary or paired, axillary, on both young and old branches; pedicels almost absent or up to 15 mm. long, appressed-pubescent; bracteoles ovate-orbicular, cucullate, brown-sericeous outside, glabrous within, enclosing the bud, caducous.
Branches pliant, pendulous, densely-rusty-or fawn-pubescent at first, eventually glabrous, with fluted bark and prominent lenticels.
Sepals 8–15 mm. long, ovate-triangular or oblong, acute or obtuse, densely brown-sericeous on both sides.
Stamens 1.5–3 mm. long, linear, glabrous; connective-prolongation capitate.
Small tree, much branched, evergreen, 3.5–13 m. high; bark flaking.
