Cultivation

Origin: in Beltsville, Md., by G.M. Darrow, Agr. Res. Serv. Tifblue × Menditoo; selected in 1963; tested as NC 901. Tree: vigorous; productive; should be interplanted with a suitable pollinizer variety. Fruit: using Tifblue as the standard, Powderblue is in the same season and has better fruit color, more foliage disease resistance, similar yields and mechanical harvesting characteristics. Powderblue is similar enough to Tifblue in appearance, quality, and season that the two can be harvested together and used as pollinators for each other.
