Cultivation

V. ovatum (Evergreen huckleberry) selection for landscape use, with bright red young foliage. Origin: Sidhu & Sons Nursery, Mission, BC, Canada, by G. Sidhu. Naturally occurring branch mutation from V. ovatum Thunderbird discovered 2006. USPP 25,067; 18 Nov. 2014. Tree: growth habit compact with sturdy stems; new foliage bright red; propagation by stem cuttings and in vitro. Fruit: average of 4 mm in diameter; not grown for fruit production; glossy, smooth, glabrous; mature color deep purplish-blue.
