Vaccinium uliginosum subsp. microphyllum (Lange) Hultén

A low spreading shrub. It loses its leaves in winter. The leaves are oval and 5-10 mm long. They are dull and dark green with a bluish-grey coating. The leaves turn yellow then red towards winter, before falling. The flowers are small and red. They appear as 1-3 at the ends of last year's branches. They are the shape of upside down urns. The fruit are round or pear shaped and blue. The pulp is green.

It is a cold temperate plant.
